Goode Notes: The importance of CRANE
May 8, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Today, I had the great pleasure of visiting the Naval Surface Warfare Center at CRANE. This was not my first time there. As part of the leadership of Indiana State University, I routinely reached out to the terrific personnel at CRANE. Indiana is so fortunate to have this military presence within our state. For our country, CRANE represents important national security leadership. For our state, CRANE represents important economic development leadership. The intellectual capital at CRANE is second to none. Innovation, applied research, commercialization of product, these are all just a few examples of how CRANE must continue to exist in Indiana.
Moreover, we must proceed with the timely completion of I-69 to service CRANE and help position it to continue to support our men and women in uniform.
To learn more about this great national and state asset, I encourage all to go to the CRANE website at http://www.crane.navy.mil/defaulthome.asp
My thanks to Captain Mark Welsh and Duane Embree for their hard work and dedication to country and state.
See you on the campaign trail!

Tonight it became official. It is an honor to be your official Republican nominee for United States Congress. Thank you to the Republican County Chairs who endorsed my campaign so early on. Thank you to those who have invested in this cause. Thank you to the many volunteers who have helped along the way. Tomorrow begins a new effort to establish a rock-solid, reliable conservative voice to the House of Representatives!

Goode Notes: Tomorrow, Exercise Your Right to Vote!
May 5, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Who will be our leaders in the future. The decision of electing our future leaders is in your hands. Regardless of your political leanings, take advantage of your right to vote tomorrow.
Team Goode had another terrific weekend with events including the Parke County Women's GOP meeting, the Brazil VFW Loyalty Day Parade, and the Sullivan County Lincoln Day. In between, we knocked on doors in Parke County. Sunday featured chicken and noodles at the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department.
Good luck to my fellow candidates.

Goode Notes: Congratulations, President Lloyd Benjamin
May 2, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
For nearly six years, I had the great honor of working for a great champion for higher education, the President of Indiana State University, Lloyd W. Benjamin, III. President Benjamin has worked tirelessly to advance ISU, Terre Haute, and western Indiana. He has played a key role in increasing the economic development opportunities for our community. He has been a terrific boss.
Tonight, the ISU family celebrated the impact of President Benjamin. I extend to him my sincere congratulations for his great work.

Goode Notes: A Champion for Indiana Coal
May 1 , 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Who is the champion of coal? I rarely hear about coal from the United States Congress--with the exception of Barack Obama who refers to coal as that "dirty" energy source. This is the slap in the face of Indiana coal companies and their employees. Fifty-two percent of our nation's energy comes from coal, and this industry needs a new champion. Today, I had the pleasure of visting the Sunrise Coal Company in Carlisle. I went into the mine with my friend, State Senator John Waterman. Thanks to Brent Bilsland and Jay Toney for the opportunity to see one of Indiana's strong producers of coal. To learn more about our thoughts on coal, check out our plan, A New Covenant for the Conservative Movement.
I also appreciated the opportunity to speak at the Greene County Lincoln Day dinner. Special thanks to Randal Brown and Pam Yoho for their hard work in making last night's event a great success.
Saturday provides another terrific day with events including the Parke County Women's GOP Event, the Brazil VFW Loyalty Day Parade, and the Sullivan County Lincoln Day.

Goode Notes: A Champion for Homeland Security!
April 29, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting with friends at the Terre Haute Labor Temple for the Meet the Candidates event. Thanks to the Wabash Valley Central Labor Council and the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 20 for sponsoring this event. My message to the crowd was clear, Washington has let us down in two major ways. The first deals with the fact that thousands of illegal aliens are literally walking into this country unchecked, and Congress has still done nothing about it. Second, Republicans and Democrats in Washington are responsible for the handing over of middle class jobs to countries that do not have to abide by the same labor, environmental, and occupational safety laws and regulations that we have here in the United States. Both of these issues are covered in our plan, A New Covenant for the Conservative Movement.
This past Saturday featured a nineteen hour day for the Goode for Congress team. We had pancakes with the folks in Sanborn at the Volunteer Fire Department (See picture of the week). We had another helping of pancakes at the Linton Armory sponsored by the K of C. We swung by Sullivan High School and then burned off the calories by knocking on the doors of over four hundred homes in Gibson and Posey Counties. We ate fish in Brazil (Habitat for Humanity) and Bridgeton (VFD), BBQ in Shepardsville, and Spaghetti in Dana (both for the volunteer fire departments). Finally, I saw my friends with the Second Amendment Patriots in Southern Indiana. Thanks to "Goode Friend," Jim Tomes for his leadership in gun policy issues in this state and country. A long day, but we are just getting started!
Tonight we attend the Crisis Pregnancy Center dinner in Terre Haute, and tomorrow we are again in Gibson County.
See you on the campaign trail!

Goode Notes: Don't Play Politics with Our Energy!
April 24, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
When I learned that the 8th District Congressman sponsored legislation that would weaken our nationa's emergency energy supplies, I issued the following release:
GREG GOODE OPPOSES SUSPENSION OF DEPOSITS TO U.S. STRATEGIC PETROLEUM RESERVE
TERRE HAUTE: Eighth District Congressional candidate Greg Goode last night announced his opposition to a proposal co-sponsored by Congressman Brad Ellsworth that would divert oil from entering the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). Mr. Ellsworth announced his co-sponsorship of HR 5473 earlier yesterday.
Speaking at a candidates’ forum sponsored by the Terre Haute Homebuilders’ Association, Goode called for stronger leadership in strengthening the United States’ emergency supplies of petroleum.
“Playing politics on issues of national security is wrong and goes against the common sense conservative values of the Indiana Eighth Congressional District,” said Goode.
“The United States SPR was developed to ensure that our country’s immediate energy needs would not be disrupted during a major national emergency such as a military conflict or natural disaster,” said Goode. “It was not meant to be utilized for political stunts that do nothing more than pay lip service to the financial pain Americans are feeling at the gasoline pump.”
According to the United States Department of Energy, emergency draw-downs of the SPR occurred during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It serves as a significant deterrent to oil import cutoffs and is a key tool of foreign policy.
Goode’s advocacy of domestic drilling for oil and increasing US oil refinery capacity is part of his “Goode Plan for a Better America,” which specifically criticizes both parties in Washington for failing to offer bold policies that address the United States’ dependency on oil from the Middle East.
“I am surprised that Mr. Ellsworth, who ran on a conservative platform in 2006 would align himself with some of the most liberal members of Congress on this issue,” said Goode.
The legislation’s author is Representative Peter Welch (D-VT) and includes various co-sponsors including Representatives Barney Frank (D-MA), Edward Markey (D-MA), and James McGovern (D-MA). A similar version of the bill has the co-sponsor support of Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Charles Schumer (D-NY).
“These East Coast liberals are the same people who are doing everything they can to prevent American oil producers from drilling for American oil on American soil,” said Goode. “They are the ones who have been so out of touch with the American people on the energy issue, and now want to play politics with our nation’s emergency energy supplies.”
Goode declared his candidacy for Congress on August 1, 2007. He is a Republican running unopposed in the Indiana Primary.
See you on the campaign trail!

Goode Notes: New Energy for Economic Development
April 22, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Today, I had the great honor of personally visiting with folks who are working to enhance the economic development opportunities in Southern Indiana. The University of Southern Indiana has embraced its important state mission in educating our state's future engineers while also focusing on applied research. In other words, this great, growing campus is helping Indiana communities solve problems. I will be returning to USI later this week.
I also had the opportunity to meet and visit with Joe Wallace, President and CEO of Greater Alliance for a Greater Evansville (GAGE) at the Evansville Downtown Rotary meeting. Clearly, leaders from the private and public sectors must work together to build better communities. Thinking in regional terms of Southern Indiana is also important as economic development is just as important to the communities of Warrick, Gibson, and Posey Counties. My thanks to "Goode Friend" Ryan Scheidler for inviting me to Rotary.
Ultimately, I believe to make our cities and towns as competitive as possible, our state and district needs the strongest champion serving on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. This is an important theme of our New Covenant for the Conservative Movement. For every dollar we Hoosiers pay at the gasoline pump in Federal gas taxes, our state receives no more than 92 cents in return for our roads, bridges, rail, and general infrastructure needs. For instance, out of nearly $40 billion in transportation funding available last year to the states, not one cent was secured for I-69 by the incumbant 8th District Congressman. The people of Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Gibson, Pike, Davies, Martin, and Greene Counties believe this is wrong. This is one of many reasons why our campaign is rapidly growing--but we need your help!
Our day ended last night at the Log Inn for a truly great Gibson County Lincoln Day Dinner. My thanks to County Chairman Chuck Strunk, State Party Chairman Murray Clark, and the large turnout of people who are looking for a new day in Indiana.
See you on the campaign trail!

Goode Notes: Fighting Taxation, Regulation, and Litigation
April 21, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
One of the cornerstones of our New Covenant for the Conservative Movement includes fiscal responsibility. The incumbant 8th District Congressman signed the Americans For Tax Reform Pledge to never raise taxes and that same group has identified him of breaking that pledge multiple times. In the meantime, the National Taxpayer Union's report card on the Indiana Congressional Delegation has given the 8th District Congressman an "F" rating. This is not what Hoosiers expect from their Congressman and fiscal responsibility was a hot topic over the weekend.
We started Saturday morning at 4:30 a.m. as we headed to Chandler for a community center pancake breakfast and then on Evansville for breakfast number two with the Vanderburgh County GOP. Then it was on to Pood's in Princeton, a Owne County Republican Chili Supper, a Tri Kappa Fish Fry in Covington, and then back to Terre Haute for the Craig McKee 50th Birthday Celebration. In between, we managed to knock on 113 doors.
After church on Sunday was spent with "Goode Friends," Jerry and Jo Einstandig and Ralph and Jan Cutter who kindly hosted a fundraising brunch for our campaign. I cannot thank them enough as well as the good folks who came out to eat a great meal and support this effort. Nearly every dollar we have raised so far has come from folks in Indiana. This is in stark contrast to the amount of money raised by the 8th District Congressman who has accepted over $10,000 from Barack Obama and a countless number of liberal politicians and special interest groups from outside of Indiana. We finished Sunday once again knocking on doors in Vermillion County.
Today we visited with our friend Art Evans, President of Dixie Chopper, and then a wonderful evening at the Clay County Lincoln Day Dinner. Tomorrow, another full day in Vanderburgh and Gibson Counties.
See you on the campaign trail!

Goode Notes: Happy Birthday Craig McKee!
April 18, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Last night provided another opportunity to advocate for our New Covenant for the Conservative Movement as we joined fellow Republicans at two Lincoln Day Dinners at Daviess and Pike Counties. A special thanks to "Goode Friends," Martin Mummaw (Daviess County Chairman) and Randy Harris (Pike County Chairman).
Today, we are in Vigo and Knox Counties--reminding folks of our desire to re-open a Congressional District Office in Vincennes. Tomorrow, it will be on to Vanderbugh Warrick, Owen, and Fountain Counties for various events including door-to-door activities.
Tomorrow evening is a particularly special event as my friend, Craig McKee turn 50. Craig and his wife, Diann, are strong community leaders and dedicated to service to this state and country. Craig serves on the Board of the Washington Cathedral and is one of Indiana's great sons. Happy Birthday, Craig!

Goode Notes: A Great Evening for a Grand Opening!
April 16, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
Tonight was the official grand opening of the Goode for Congress Terre Haute Campaign Headquarters, and I was so grateful to see the many "Goode Friends" who came out to celebrate the New Covenant for the Conservative Movement. My thanks to WTHI TV 10 for coming out to cover a truly great event!
The address of our new headquarters is 3175 S. 3rd Place in Terre Haute. We are located in the facility that was formerly the Indiana Business College. It is located behind Honey Creek Mall, across the street from JC Penney.
I have the pleasure of being a member of the Terre Haute Kiwanis Club, and yesterday was a special fundraising event at the Terre Haute VFW to raise money and awareness for the children undergoing medical treatment at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. My thanks to my fellow Kiwanians for their hard work in putting on a terrific chili supper!
The tax issue continues to be on the minds of the people. It is important to note that the National Taxpayers Union recently came out with its report card on the Indiana Congressional Delegation on efforts to decrease taxes. The 8th District Congressman received an “F” rating. An “F” rating is not acceptable, and this is why people are searching for a stronger fiscal champion.
See you on the campaign trail!

Goode Notes: Campaign HQ Open House
April 15, 2008 | Posted by Greg Goode
I am writing to advise you that our official opening of the Goode for Congress Campaign Headquarters will happen tomorrow evening, April 16 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The address of our new headquarters is 3175 S. 3rd Place in Terre Haute. We are located in the facility that was formerly the Indiana Business College. It is located behind Honey Creek Mall, across the street from JC Penney. Please come by tomorrow night, say hello to my team and family, and enjoy some light refreshments.
I also want to call your attention to the attached link that will connect you to the “Dave Crooks Show.” http://www.wamwamfm.com/Audio/04-12-08DvCrksShw.wma
Mr. Crooks’ public affairs radio program on WAMW comes on live from Washington and Vincennes, Indiana on Saturday mornings. I had the privilege of being on the show this past Saturday. When you click on the link, please note that I come on about twenty minutes into the program and took live, call-in questions at the end of the show. I hope you take a few minutes to listen about the cause to send a rock solid, reliable, conservative voice to the United States Congress.
Yesterday, we made official our announcement to open a Congressional District Office in Covington if elected. Commitment to a strong constituent services program is a defining characteristic of a Congressman who is accessible to his constituents and responsive to their needs. I think it is unrealistic for folks in Fountain County and the other northern counties of the 8th District to have to travel to Terre Haute to meet with their Congressman and his staff. I know of no better place to open this office than Covington, the hometown of one of our state’s greatest Congressmen—The Honorable John T. Myers.
Finally, I had the pleasure last night of participating in the Sullivan County Farm Bureau “Meet the Candidates” event at Sullivan High School. I appreciate the folks at WNDI radio for their live coverage of this event. Taxes and transportation were the two issues on the minds of almost everyone. With regard to taxes, it is important to note that the National Taxpayers Union recently came out with its report card on the Indiana Congressional Delegation on efforts to decrease taxes. The 8th District Congressman received an “F” rating. An “F” rating is not acceptable, and this is why people are searching for a stronger fiscal champion. With regard to transportation, our communities need more funding for roads, bridges, rail, and infrastructure projects. For every dollar we send to Washington in gasoline taxes, our state receives no more than 92 cents in return from Washington, DC. We need strong, aggressive representative on the House Transportation Committee, and I pledge to work with local and county leaders to help our communities receive more funding.
We are working very hard. I hope to see you tomorrow night at our Goode for Congress Open House!

Vincennes: Eighth District Congressional candidate Greg Goode today announced his plan, if elected, to open a Congressional district office in the city of Vincennes that will be dedicated for assisting constituents who are having difficulty in dealing with the federal government. Goode previously served as the Constituent Services Director for two United States Congressmen.
“Commitment to a strong constituent services program is a defining characteristic of a Congressman who is accessible to his constituents and responsive to their needs,” said Goode. “I think it is unrealistic for folks in Knox County to have to travel to Terre Haute or Evansville to meet with their Congressman and his staff.”
Goode hinted of his district office plan on Saturday, March 29th, while attending a Vincennes pancake breakfast fundraiser for Hoosier National Guardsmen serving in Iraq. “There previously was a Congressional district office in Vincennes, and I was disappointed when I heard it was closed by the current Congressman,” said Goode. “Listening to the families of Hoosier men and women in uniform confirmed my strong belief of having a Congressional office in Vincennes,” Goode stated.
Goode is running unopposed in the upcoming May Republican primary and already has the support of all eighteen GOP County Chairmen in the 8th district, including TJ Brink of Knox County.Greg

What a great week to be on the campaign trail, advocating for a new covenant for the conservative movement in Indiana!
Many of you know that the official Goode for Congress vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Tundra, made by Hoosiers in Princeton, Indiana. This past week, I witnessed how that truck was made as I toured the Toyota plant. We are blessed to have Toyota in this district, and while Congress has tried to increase taxes on Toyota for being foreign-owned, I am proudly driving that Tundra throughout all 18 counties of this district.
Leslie and I saw our good friend, Secretary of State Todd Rokita as we attended our first two Lincoln Day Dinners in 2008. Thanks to Martin County Chairman, Earl Boyd, and Warrick County Chairman, Rick Martin, for their hard work. I also attended Soil and Water Conservation District meetings in Sullivan and Clay Counties. Leslie and I joined our friends Martin Mumaw and Mark and Kim Mesmer in attending the Friends of the NRA banquet in Daviess County. I saw friends at the Brazil Chamber of Commerce reception at the Elks Club, toured the Owen County Courthouse after having breakfast at Chambers Restaurant, and met the team of WRAY radio in Gibson County.
We were highlighted in the Terre Haute Tribune Star, as I continue to call for having a representative on the House Transportation Committee. As many of you know, for every dollar Hoosiers pay at the gas pump, Indiana receives no more than 92 cents for roads, rail, and infrastructure projects. This is wrong!
Finally, Mrs. Goode responded to the recent article in the Evansville Courier about Congressman Brad Ellsworth receiving significant campaign funding from Barack Obama. Please see the letter which recently ran in the Evansville newspaper.

Like most of the residents of southern Indiana, Greg and I were surprised to read the contents of a well written article by Tom Langhorne with the Evansville Courier and Press regarding the "tricky decision" Brad Ellsworth will have to make in determining whether to support Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. For the Goode family, there is no trickiness about it. We believe that Hoosiers deserve a reliable conservative voice in Washington to hold all politicians accountable. This was a week where I met many new people engaged as entrepreneurs in their communities. Examples of entrepreneurship can be seen in hospitals, schools and universities, and of course, businesses. The American economy must continue to thrive on entrepreneurship. Leaders at all governmental levels should work to make the United States the most economically free country in the world.
While Republicans and Democrats in Washington congratulate themselves in passing a one-time economic stimulus legislation, they continue to fail to take the broader steps necessary to strengthen the American economy. American families and businesses continue to be plagued with "TRL Syndrome," (taxation, regulation, and litigation). The more Washington can do to lower taxes, decrease regulation, and protect families and businesses from frivolous lawsuits, the stronger the American economy will be.
I believe that Washington must do a better job in promoting the virtues of entrepreneurship and free market principles. I believe we must achieve a low, flat, and simple federal tax system. We must eliminate unnecessary red tape that hampers risk-taking by small business entrepreneurs. We must continue to find international markets available to our farmers and small business owners while making certain that trade agreements ensure that foreign companies are working by the same environmental, labor, and occupational safety laws as American companies. We must promote life-long learning at all ages of life to ensure the competitiveness of our country's human capital.
Another busy weekend is ahead of us including breakfasts, dinners, and door-to-door activities. We will also specifically be meeting with 8th District County GOP chairs, joining friends at the "meet the candidates" event in Parke County, and participating in a Goode for Congress fundraiser in Knox County that will feature a very special guest--my good friend, Rex Early. We are working very hard, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

While Congress contemplates steroids in baseball, thousands of illegal aliens continue to walk into this country unchecked while middle class families continue to struggle with skyrocketing prices on gasoline.
It was another busy week for the Goode family and Goode for Congress team--one filled with visits to the Vigo County Friends of the NRA dinner and the Parke County National Wild Turkey Federation dinner. I am especially grateful to my friend, Darrell Felling, for inviting me to these fine events.
The momentum of this campaign once again grew as my friends, Terry and Elaine Bauer kindly hosted a fundraiser in their beautiful, historic home. Nearly every dollar secured by Goode for Congress has been raised by families and individuals from within Indiana. This truly is a grass-roots effort!
Dennis Campbell and I braved the winter ice and snow as we visited the courthouses of Warren, Fountain, and Vermillion Counties. We shared opinions with the local customers of Darrel’s Custom Firearms in Cayuga, and listened to farm policy concerns of Clay County residents Marshall Nuckolls and Jack Knust.
Today we are in Pike and Gibson Counties and will be spending the evening with friends at the Knox County Ag Day. Stay tuned for an upcoming major announcement on the official Goode for Congress Headquarters!Greg

I would not accept any money from Barack Obama and would challenge all Indiana politicians to turn away liberal efforts of courtship.

Ellsworth Hedging Support Rep. Brad Ellsworth may have a tricky decision to make if Democrats don't have a presidential nominee by the time they open their national convention in Denver this summer. It is a decision Ellsworth hopes won't be necessary. The first-term Democratic congressman is one of 796 superdelegates to the August convention. Their votes could help tip the balance to Hillary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama if neither has enough delegates to win the nomination before the convention starts. Asked about the possibility through a spokesperson last week, Ellsworth responded with a written statement. "I have not endorsed a candidate for president, but I'm watching the race closely, as all Americans should," it said. "Hoosiers are independent thinkers and will make up their own minds about who they want to lead our country. "I don't think anyone knows how long the race for the Democratic nomination will go. But I believe the American people should decide who the nominee will be, so I hope it's settled before the National Convention. "And I am glad that, for the first time in a long time, Indiana will likely have a say on who that nominee will be." On Saturday at a Vanderburgh County Democratic Party caucus, Ellsworth said he probably will cast his superdelegate vote for whichever candidate wins a majority in the 8th District in Indiana's May 6 primary. Dr. Robert Dion, a political scientist at the University of Evansville, said Ellsworth has nothing to gain by aligning himself with Clinton or Obama in a congressional district that voted 62 percent Republican in the 2004 presidential election. "You notice that (Ellsworth's written statement) is a carefully worded statement where he praises the voters and praises Indiana and kind of shuffles off," Dion said. "He would risk alienating the candidate he doesn't endorse and, by being a visible voice in the Democratic race for president, he may irritate some of the Republicans who voted for him in 2006." Dion added that the Clinton and Obama campaigns likely understand the delicate political position Ellsworth is in, so they would not put him on the spot publicly. "Any Democratic president should be thrilled that the 8th District is in Democratic hands," he said. "Neither one of them would want to punish him or push him, before or after the election." Ellsworth has more ties to Obama than to Clinton. Obama's leadership political action committee, Hopefund Inc., has made four contributions to Ellsworth's campaign treasury totaling $10,000. The first contribution came Dec. 9, 2005, and the most recent contribution was made Sept. 27 last year. Neither Clinton's leadership PAC nor her campaign PAC had contributed to Ellsworth through the most recent reporting period. In October 2006, three weeks before Ellsworth ousted then-Rep. John Hostettler, R-Ind., Obama appeared at a $250-per-plate fundraiser VIPs paid $1,000 for Ellsworth and two other Indiana Democratic House candidates. On election night, after Ellsworth had defeated Hostettler, Obama called to congratulate him. In Congress, Ellsworth and Obama's staffs worked together on a bill to withhold federal contracts from companies and grantees that have not paid their federal taxes. Ellsworth said Saturday that he has never met or spoken to Clinton, but he participated in a meeting in the last half of 2007 between Obama and a group of Democratic House members. |

As the campaign activity intensifies, it is good to reflect on several developments from the past week. Last Saturday, I attended the Quail Unlimited dinner in Vincennes. I spent over three hours at this fine event visiting with friends. I am especially grateful to my Knox County Coordinators, Kent and Chris Houchins, for their help.
On Monday, I saw my good friend, Secretary of State Todd Rokita, at the Indiana State House as I made it official that I wanted to serve as your reliable conservative voice in the United States House of Representatives. I filled out the paperwork to have my name on the Indiana ballot. Secretary of State Rokita is one of our state’s hard-working and innovative leaders. I am grateful for his leadership.
Tuesday featured the opportunity to visit with Parke County leaders at the Quality of Life meeting in Rockville. I told this group that one key area where the Federal government can be involved in assisting communities on quality of life issues is through transportation and infrastructure. Currently, Indiana has no member from its Congressional Delegation on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and the timing could not be worse. For every dollar Hoosiers pay at the gasoline pump, the State of Indiana receives no more than 92 cents in return for high priority community highway, road, rail, and infrastructure projects. This is wrong, and I want to serve as the new champion for our transportation needs. I am grateful for my good friend, Marjorie Hays, who invited me to this event.
On Thursday, Mrs. Goode and I attended the live, call-in public affairs program, the Shively/Shoulders Show on WNIN. I appreciated the opportunity to be on that program to highlight my commitment to the most important economic development issue for southern Indiana, the timely completion of I-69. I am grateful for the fair and thoughtful questions I received from Les Shively and guest co-host, Paul Black. I addressed about five calls relating to my desire for: (1) greater fiscal responsibility in the Congress, (2) stronger protection of our heritage and Hoosier values, (3) enhancing the national security of the US, and (4) serving on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. To see this interview, please check out the Shively Shoulders Link on the WNIN website.
This weekend will feature eating good pasta with my friends in Parke County, attending the NRA event in Daviess County, and seeing my Republican friends at the Martin County Lincoln Day dinner.
I’ll see you on the campaign trail!Greg

Also, while driving through downtown Brazil, I noticed some very attractive Support Our Troops banners being proudly displayed. Businesses can purchase these banners through the local Chamber of Commerce in Brazil. It’s a great way for your company to show its’ support for our men and women in uniform.

Earlier in the month my new campaign manager Dennis Campbell and I attended an exciting event in Evansville. It was the 5th annual Bill of Rights Day which took place in the beautiful downtown headquarters of Old National Bank. The program was a joint venture of the 2nd Amendment Patriots and Restoring Our Heritage. We heard from a number of excellent speakers including several students who had written wonderful essays regarding the Bill of Rights and the freedoms we enjoy living here in the United States.
The very next day I was in Warrick County for the Boonville Christmas parade. Despite the cold weather, the parade was a lot of fun as I got to meet and speak with a number of folks who braved the elements to attend. A special thanks goes out to Sarah Topper for bringing her family members to walk with the Goode team.
The other event I wanted to make note of was back in Evansville on December 21st at the Executive Inn. Ted Ziemer, Jeff Knight, Marsha Abel and Bob Koch were kind enough to host a breakfast fundraiser for me, and I want to again thank everybody who attended. I am also grateful to my good friend, State Treasurer Richard Mourdock who spoke at this fine event.
Those were just a few of the stops we made recently, as among others, I also enjoyed the GOP Christmas parties in Knox, Clay and Vermillion counties.
In closing, I feel enthusiastic and confident heading into a pivotal 2008. I'm sure I will be seeing many of you throughout the 8th district soon.
Until then, have a safe and Happy New Year !

I am picking up on several issues of concern that continue to surface while meeting with people around the district. One of those issues includes the failure of this Congress to adopt an energy bill that creates free market approaches to alternative fuel development. The second issue relates to the failure of this Congress, and frankly, all of Washington, to adopt a policy that will put an immediate stop on the thousands of illegal aliens flooding into this country.
Both issues are national security issues, and I believe in immediate action, not just lip service through introductory pieces of legislation that will never see the light of day in a Congress dominated by liberal leadership.

As I listened to so many folks across the 8th district and watched the first several months of Congressional activity, it became increasingly clear to me that the 8th Congressional District needed and deserved a stronger champion for the common sense conservative values that define us.
On August 1st, I officially announced that I wanted to be your Congressman, and since that announcement, my family and I have visited every county in this district several times. We have much for which to be thankful during these first sixty days. This campaign received the endorsement of the 8th District Republican County Chairs, we have exceeded expectations of the amount of money needed to be raised at this juncture, and we have begun building the organization throughout each county. We have walked in seven different parades and have already attended countless dinners, festivals, and community events. All of this has been accomplished as I have served as a part-time candidate while transitioning from my responsibilities at Indiana State University.
Today is a new day, and from this point forward, this campaign is now in full-time mode. I have now concluded my responsibilities at ISU and have stepped down as the Chief Public Affairs Officer to place my focus on the task ahead. My wife Leslie, my son Jackson, and I are coming to your community in the days, weeks, and months ahead. We look forward to visiting with you and discussing the issues that affect you and your family.
If you have not taken the time to do so already, I invite you to join the Goode for Congress Campaign team. I need you, your family, and your friends to join. If we are to succeed in making a change for our country and our district, we need volunteers to join us at parades, to stuff envelopes, to hold rallies, to organize fundraisers, to operate telephone call centers, to place yard signs, and to organize teams to walk neighborhoods. Every effort and even a little bit of time will help our cause. To join this cause, please visit: https://www.greggoode.com/volunteer.asp
Sign up to help in your area, or drop me an email and tell me how you would like to help at greg@greggoode.com.
Be sure to check out the website each week, as it will update you with information on key issues and the latest news from the campaign trail.
As we travel the 8th District, I want to keep you informed of where we go and what we are doing. I want you to be a part of this and will provide you the details of what we are doing to make a change in the 8th District. My goal is to give you a front row seat to each and every stop.
Ultimately, it will take all of us to make a difference. One year and one month from today, we will take back this district!
See you very soon.

On September 30th, I will officially step down from my administrative position at Indiana State University to begin campaigning full-time. This focus will allow me to dedicate my full attention and energy to the campaign. I'm going to give this campaign all that I have to give, and I hope that you will join me.
I am looking forward to visiting the towns of Dugger and Cory this weekend and visiting with more of you in the months to come.
Be sure to check back for event updates and feel free to send me an email with comments or questions at info@greggoode.com.
See you on the road!

On Monday, Leslie, Jackson, and I joined a dozen others of the Goode for Congress team to walk in the Terre Haute Labor day parade, which is one of the largest Labor Day parades in the state. Following the parade, I joined my friends from the various labor councils as well as public officials at the state, county, and local levels in addressing the large crowds who gathered for a bean dinner and good fellowship.
It is clear that the American labor force is concerned with the floods of illegal aliens entering this country as well as the loss of jobs from unfair trading practices. Working men and women also support our troops serving abroad in the war on terror, and they do not tolerate Members of Congress who one day vote against the troops while another day switching votes in favor of the troops. These men and women
want and deserve a strong voice in Congress who will always vote to support our troops.
It was a great weekend to be in Indiana, and I am blessed to have the opportunities to visit with so many hard-working Hoosiers who love this country as much as I do.
Greg
