Goode leaving ISU to run for House

TERRE HAUTE — Greg Goode is leaving his post at Indiana State
University effective Sept. 30 to devote more time to his campaign
for 8th District Congressman.
Goode is ISU’s executive assistant to the president for external
affairs, a position he’s occupied for nearly six years.
“This is a personal decision,” he said. “I felt
it was important — with the amount of time one must dedicate
to a Congressional campaign effort — to give it as close to
a full-time effort as possible.”
He said he didn’t believe it would be fair “to ask
ISU to find a place for me while I’m off running for Congress.”
Last month, he announced he was running for Indiana’s 8th
District congressional race on the Republican ticket.
If successful in a Republican party primary, Goode likely would
challenge incumbent Rep. Brad Ellsworth, D-Evansville, in the November
2008 congressional election.
Before announcing, Goode had talked with ISU President Lloyd Benjamin
about the best way for him to transition from the university.
“I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish
here at Indiana State,” Goode said. He’s particularly
proud of helping secure state funding for the renovation of University
Hall, which will house the College of Education. It is the largest
state-funded project in ISU history.
He has represented ISU in such projects as the Cherry Street Transportation/Parking
facility, and he has been ISU’s liaison to the city of Terre
Haute, particularly in issues dealing with economic development.
Goode said he has enjoyed his time at the university. “It
has been an absolutely wonderful experience,” he said.
Earlier this summer, he launched Goode Strategies LLC, a public
affairs consulting firm. The new job will give him the flexibility
he’ll need to run for Congress, he said.
Benjamin praised Goode for his work in advocating for ISU at the
local, state and federal levels. “Greg has been a tremendous
asset to our university,” Benjamin said.
Benjamin recognized Goode on Thursday during the president’s
fall address in Tilson Auditorium.
