University says goodbye to congressional hopeful
By Aliya Kahn

Members of the community gathered Friday afternoon to honor Greg
Goode, former executive assistant to the president for external
affairs at ISU.
Goode announced his candidacy for the 8th District Congress on
Aug. 1. He has since then gained the support from the 8th District
Republican Committee and plans on devoting his time and attention
to the campaign and election.
"My goals are to criss-cross the 15 counties that make up
the Indiana 8th Congressional District," Goode said. "I
will be doing that for the next one year and one month of my life.
This is a big district geographically speaking. It is one the largest
districts in Indiana and it is going to take a lot of time. That's
why we announce this early."
The reception took place in the Heritage Lounge where, among others,
members of the Board of Trustees, Student Government Association,
the Building of Social, Business and Academic Affairs and the Alumni
Council gathered to discuss, honor and reminisce about working with
Goode. Among the many guests who attended the event were Goode's
wife Leslie, son Jackson, and mother and father.
Members of the University gave short speeches honoring Goode and
presented gifts, ranging from plaques, pens and photos to the prestigious
Albert Jones Medal for outstanding counsel and advice to the presidency
awarded by President Lloyd W. Benjamin III, who, in his speech,
described the day as "bittersweet" and that "students
today and future decades will benefit from (Goode's) work."
A.J. Patton, the SGA president, complimented Goode during the program
as having the "keen ability to get the job done and bring people
together to make it seem like a group accomplishment."
In his time working for the university, Goode aided in the funding
for Stalker Hall, the Student Recreation Center, the renovation
of the life science and biological science laboratories and the
nursing program.
He also worked towards the creation of the Innovation Alliance.
"Indiana State has provided me the opportunity to move back
to my hometown," Goode said. "It has given me the opportunity
to try to champion the many good things going on here and to work
with leaders like Mayor Burke and representative Clyde Kersey and
Senator Evan Bayh."
