Greg Goode "Dismayed" in Congressional Approval of Energy Bill

Terre Haute, IN - Greg Goode, a Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District in Indiana, today expressed his disappointment in HR 6, the Energy Bill, which passed the United States House of Representatives earlier today. The bill passed along party lines by a vote of 235-181.

"Once again, Nancy Pelosi and her out-of-touch Congress have defied the common sense conservative values of our Indiana families and communities. This energy bill will hurt Indiana families and businesses by increasing taxes and regulations," said Goode.

Estimates indicate the bill will result in $21 billion in new taxes on U.S. energy sources, ultimately forcing increased reliance on foreign oil. "We need to be cultivating home-grown energy, not suffocating it," Goode said. "One of Indiana's great natural resources is coal, and this bill effectively turns its back on an important source of Hoosier jobs and energy in favor of Middle East oil."

The average price of a gallon of gasoline nationally has hovered around $3.00. HR 6 will place further pressures on domestic production and could easily lead to even more historic highs.

"This legislation will force families to purchase more expensive vehicles that run on more expensive fuel. It raises the cost of electricity during a time when Hoosier families are already financially stretched. I would have voted against this bill, and I am dismayed that anyone who claims to be a conservative would support it," said Goode.
